DougFM we play everything (2025-01-22)

On April 1st 2005 in Detroit we heard the first broadcast of Doug FM (93.1 FM, WDRQ). This radio station was known for the “We Play Everything” format. It replaced the Top 40 format of WDRQ. The station was branded as “93.1 Doug FM”. It played a wide variety of music from the 1970s to the 2000s, with minimal DJ presence and irreverent humor in its branding.

Doug FM’s playlist spanned rock, pop, and classic hits, targeting a broad adult demographic. The station adopted a random, playlist-free approach, giving the impression that “Doug” was picking songs spontaneously, a trend that resonated with listeners looking for variety.

Doug FM’s run ended on December 13, 2013. The station switched back to a Top 40/CHR format and rebranded as “93.1 Nash FM” under the Cumulus Media umbrella.

The Doug FM “We Play Everything” jingle is the inspiration for the pluralist network - we write about everything. Take a listen: https://youtu.be/Dv5debB98xs
