- [Scott Hanselman](https://www.hanselman.com/) demoed [VTM](https://github.com/directvt/vtm): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKaHruJEo7g](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKaHruJEo7g)

- [VTM](https://github.com/directvt/vtm) is an open-source text-based desktop environment for/ **in** Windows Terminal

- We’ve been huge fans of [Far Manager](https://www.farmanager.com/) here at the Pluralist Network.

- Another great write-up: [Far Manager for Linux and MacOS | Roman's blog](https://blog.kirillov.cc/posts/far-manager/)

- Let’s not forget **Norton Commander** , which is what started this software category. Norton Commander was a dual-pane, text-mode file manager for MS-DOS introduced by Peter Norton Computing in 1986. It let users copy, move, view, edit, and archive files quickly via function-key shortcuts. Its design became the template for later [“ **orthodox** ” file managers](https://pluralist.net/t/orthodox-file-managers-ofms/268) such as Total Commander and Midnight Commander.
