Over the years we have experimented with many fonts for writing and coding. Our current favorite font is [Berkeley Mono](https://berkeleygraphics.com/typefaces/berkeley-mono/). We generally approve of and love the design philosophy of the team behind this typeface – focused on reading and writing reminiscent of the golden era of computing, the early days of UNIX.

Other fonts we like and use:

- [Consolas (from Microsoft)](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/font-list/consolas?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) – the default monospaced font in Windows.
- [Menlo (Apple)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menlo_(typeface)?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) – From Wikipedia: Menlo is a monospaced sans-serif _typeface_ designed by Jim Lyles and Charles Bigelow in 1997. The _typeface_ was first shipped with Mac OS X Snow Leopard.
- [Monaco (Apple)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaco_(typeface)?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) – the default monospace font currently shipping with macOS
- [Inconsolata](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inconsolata?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) – designed by Raph Levien in 2006.
- [GlassTTY](https://github.com/svofski/glasstty?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) – a TrueType VT220 font reminiscent of a CRT terminal.
- [JetBrains mono](https://www.jetbrains.com/lp/mono/?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) is great
- [SourceCode Pro](https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-code-pro)
- [Liberation Mono](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberation_fonts) (Monospaced on my favorite distro)
- and last but not least - Lucide Grande (used by Rob Pike and [Russ Cox](https://twitter.com/_rsc/status/1486353935334060034?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io) in [the ACME editor](https://twitter.com/_rsc/status/1261035636791934976?ref=delyan-org.ghost.io))

[Russ Cox](https://swtch.com/~rsc/) and [Rob Pike](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Pike) have inspired us to try [ACME](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23780273)

- launch `acme` with options: `-f /mnt/font/LucidaGrande/13a/font -F /mnt/font/SourceCodePro-Regular/13a/font`
- [here is Russ Cox using it](https://twitter.com/_rsc/status/1261041918995238913/photo/1)
